Welcome
For those that don’t know me, or don’t know me well, let’s get acquainted. I started my blog in 2022. If you've read some of these posts before, feel free to skip down to the new stuff. If not, here's some backstory you might find interesting.
Yes, my name really is Dub. I was Dub before dubs were awesome spinners and custom wheels for cars. Before the Golden State Warriors were the Dubs. I was Dub before dub music became dubstep. Having spent a lot of time in Jamaica, my friends there started calling me "Jamerican." In the Southwestern USA where I grew up Dub is a nickname when your name begins with “W.” Mine’s William. I inherited Dub from my dad. He was Dub before me. I’m Dub II. Double Dub.
Who Is Author Dub Karriker?
I’m a white Christian man in my late 60’s. Feel free to stop reading now if that bothers you. I understand. No hard feelings. In fact, I’m really not about hard feelings at all. That’s why I decided to write.
I’ve been many things in my life; a kid from Arkansas, a baseball player, a student at Centenary College of Louisiana (Go Gents!) and Florida State University (Go Noles!), a truck driver, an opera singer, a professional musician/writer/arranger/director, a vacuum cleaner repair guy, a janitor, a business manager, a pastor, an entrepreneur, and now a retired-ish author with hopefully another book or three in me.
My Inspiration
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” ~ Jesus
What's Really Important
First and foremost, I am a disciple of Jesus Christ. He saved me from myself and my sins at age 15. I’ve been grateful and dumbstruck enough to follow where He led me more or less faithfully ever since. I’m also the husband of the best wife a man can have who has put up with me for 44 years. I was and am the foster father to a lovely daughter and a few others. Son to my wonderful parents, brother to my loving and long-suffering sister. I'm an in-law, uncle, cousin, friend, brother in Christ, and sometimes mentor. I credit my parents for that last part because of their example. They equipped me with the love, ability, and grace I've needed to live a good and meaningful life. Mom and Dad are gone now, and I miss them every day.
I love to travel and share the love of Jesus with everyone everywhere. As a pastor, teaching and preaching every Sunday scratched a certain itch and I miss it. Now I write and sometimes get to speak. I love Jesus and God’s Word – the Bible. Shouldn’t everyone hear the Good News about Jesus and at least have the opportunity to make an informed decision about their own life and destiny? I hope my writing can help make that happen.
What To Expect
I’ve realized I have a lot of stories and thoughts I need to get off my chest. If that helps someone else in the process, that’s great. I’ve made a lot of good friends over the course of my life. People have often been kinder to me than I deserved. Hopefully you’ll find this tiny corner of the blogosphere a place of repaid kindnesses, grace, and honesty. I’ll do my best to stick a sock in it whenever I feel a rant coming on.
As I’ve grown older, I often pray and ask God to make me kinder, more gentle, and more loving rather than the alternative. I don’t want to be a stereotypical angry old man. I’m asking for your help. If you see Mr. Grumpy in my posts, please hit me up and let me know. As the ancient philosophers of the 80's band Level 42 wrote and sang in Something About You, “we’re only human after all.” I often find God’s truth and wisdom in unexpected places. Let’s explore those places together. As always, please keep me in your thoughts prayers and I’ll keep you in mine. Yes, I still believe that does actual good.
Thanks for reading, and to all of my new friends near and far, it's nice to make your acquaintance.
